The day before the move on January 6, 2004, the house sat on jumbo jet wheels and outfitted steel supports that would attach to the tractor.
On January 7, 2004 at 11:30 a.m., the house began its three-hour journey down Blake and Valley Streets. Its biggest challenge was the need for the utility wires between the poles to be dropped or raised.
Utility workers and City officials looked on as the house made its way out of its home of 160 years.
The house eased over the West River Bridge, perhaps the first house ever to cross these rushing waters!
With West Rock in the background, the house took a shortcut through a parking lot at Blake Street Center to avoid the intersection at Valley Street.
