Downpayment Assistance Programs
Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven currently has two programs available that provide downpayment assistance to first-time homebuyers. The American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI), which NHS of New Haven is administering for the State Department of Economic and Community Development, provides a minimum of $10,000 in downpayment assistance for homebuyers whose incomes are at or below 80% of the area median income for the New Haven-Meriden Metropolitan Statistical Area. Purchasing a home in the City of New Haven is not required; however, certain terms and conditions may apply that would affect a homebuyer’s eligibility for this program. Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven has its own downpayment assistance for homebuyers who are unable to secure all the financing they need for the purchase of a home. NHS assistance takes the form of a low-interest, fixed-rate loan that must be repaid in affordable monthly installments. Under certain circumstances, NHS’ downpayment assistance can be used in conjunction with other downpayment assistance programs. For information on these programs, please contact Bridgette Russell, Managing Director of the New Haven HomeOwnership Center at brussell@nhsofnewhaven.org. Additional downpayment assistance may be available from the City of New Haven (website) or from the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (website).
