Budgeting and Financial Management Classes

Helping homeowners and prospective homebuyers to develop effective money management skills is the key to preserving the dream of homeownership.  It has often been said that it’s not how much you make—it’s how well you manage what you make.  The staff of the New Haven HomeOwnership Center is committed to providing our clients with the basic skills needed to ensure the success of their homeownership experiences.  Indeed, “Back to Basics” is the overall theme of our Money Empowerment Series.  In our classes we work to change a pervasive mindset that develops from living in an instant-gratification, credit-driven society.  We seek to understand the psychological impact of our spending behaviors and how we can correct and reverse free spending habits.  We delve into topics as diverse as buying a new car, distinguishing between needs and wants, and the top 10 things your credit card company does not want you to know.  In group discussions we analyze the benefits of learning to live within or beneath our means and we discuss the practical steps of how this can be achieved.  This is all accomplished in a friendly and lively environment with games and activities to reinforce the information provided.
