New Haven HomeOwnership Center

The New Haven HomeOwnership Center is a subsidiary of Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven that was incorporated in 2001 to provide a complete range of homebuyer education and counseling services to NHS’ existing client base: low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers.  In incorporating the HOC, NHS recognized that a home is an asset that is only as valuable as the ability of its owner to retain it.  The HOC serves as a “one-stop shop” for prospective first-time homebuyers in the Greater New Haven area.

Over the past three years, there has been a marked increase in foreclosures due to the subprime lending crisis. Throughout the crisis,  the HOC's counseling staff has diligently worked to help affected homeowners restructure their mortgages and remain in their homes.

The breadth of HOC activities has resulted in the need to expand. We recently retrofitted a residential home to accommodate seven new offices for our housing counselors. We look forward to a grand opening celebration during our annual NeighborWorks® Week in June 2010. Details will be forthcoming and the public is welcome. We hope you can join us!
