Downpayment Assistance Programs
Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven helps to identify a variety of downpayment assistance programs that can benefit our homebuyers.
The City of New Haven often has downpayment assistance available for first-time homebuyers, and local lenders frequently have special downpayment programs that can benefit first-time homebuyers. Please check with your lender of choice or contact our office for the most up-to-date information. The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority also has a downpayment assistance program for income-eligible homebuyers.
In addition, NHS has its own downpayment assistance for homebuyers who are unable to secure all the financing they need for the purchase of a home. NHS assistance takes the form of a low-interest, fixed-rate loan that must be repaid in affordable monthly installments. Under certain circumstances, NHS’ downpayment assistance can be used in conjunction with other downpayment assistance programs. For information on all of these programs, please contact the HomeOwnershipCenter at (203) 777-6925.
Individual Development Account (IDA)
At this time, the HomeOwnership Center is no longer accepting applicants for an Individual Development Account (IDA). We would be happy to refer you to other IDA Programs in the state. If you'd like more information, please reach out to Michael Haynes, firstname.lastname@example.org, (203) 777-6925.
NHS of New Haven is proud to have been a part of the HomeLIFT program in partnership with Wells Fargo and NeighborWorks® America. We successfully processed 219 downpayment assistance grants to new homebuyers in New Haven, East Haven, and West Haven. Even though this program is no longer available, NHS housing specialists are ready and willing to work with you during every step of your home purchase journey. They will be able to identify one or more downpayment assistance programs that can benefit you and your family.
