Saving energy reduces greenhouse gas emissions and utility bills. The Lab serves as a testing ground for some of the energy saving techniques eventually used in NHS houses.  Other energy conservation methods showcased in the Lab are more suitable for small commercial buildings. NHS offers Lab tours to homeowners and developers to inspire others to design green features into their projects.

• Closed cell spray foam insulation was installed throughout to create a high performance building envelope

• A blower door test was conducted to determine building “tightness” for air leakage

• Office ceiling fans and a programmable energy management system help to ensure good thermal comfort for building occupants.
